Mid-City: The Heart of New Orleans

Right in the heart of New Orleans, Mid-City offers something for everyone. Its passionate, diverse residents include renters, homeowners, young and old, families, artists, musicians, and more – and the area boasts natural beauty, long-time, family-owned establishments, views of Bayou St. John, close proximity to City Park and affordable housing.
Roughly bounded by City Park Avenue, Orleans Avenue, South Broad, North Broad, and I-10, Mid-City also includes the beautiful Bayou St. John area which features stately homes on and around Esplanade Avenue. Living within walking distance of the Fairgrounds (where the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is held annually) is coveted by many, and for those who live close enough, their front porch can be a great spot to enjoy the show.
Nearby City Park, the largest green space in New Orleans, offers amenities such as the Museum of Art, the new Children’s Museum, the Sculpture Garden, Café du Monde, boating, sports fields, a dog park, tennis center and more. The convenient streetcar lines that run down the main thoroughfares of Carrollton Avenue and Canal Street will get you where you want to go, from great restaurants, grocery stores, bars, cafés and shopping, all the way downtown to the Central Business District. In addition, the Lafitte Greenway – a bike and pedestrian pathway — runs through Mid-City, linking neighborhoods from the French Quarter to City Park. And the banks of Bayou St. John feature plenty of wide-open spaces for recreation and relaxation.
Developed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Mid-City is known for a range of architectural styles and homes. You’ll find everything from brightly painted shotguns with gingerbread Victorian styling and Craftsman bungalows to grand homes on City Park Avenue, Canal Street, Moss Street and more.
