Broadmoor’s defining chapter came after Hurricane Katrina, when the neighborhood flooded severely and was initially earmarked for green space by city planners. Residents organized, fundraised, rebuilt, and reopened schools and community centers that became models for the rest of the city. That resilience is still visible today, in the pride people take in their homes and in the Broadmoor Improvement Association, one of the most active neighborhood organizations in New Orleans.
