An oak tree-lined area of Uptown New Orleans, Broadmoor is a diverse community known for its vital neighborhood association. Roughly bounded by South Jefferson Davis Parkway to the north, South Claiborne Avenue to the south, Nashville Avenue the west and Toledano Street/Washington Avenue to the east, Broadmoor is centrally located with easy access to Tulane and Loyola Universities, the Freret Street corridor, downtown, and I-10.
The Broadmoor Improvement Association is a non-profit organization that serves the residents who live, work, and play in the community through a coordinated network of anchor institutions, faith-based partners, and businesses. Founded in 1930, it offers everything from free and low-cost arts & wellness services and workforce development to a food pantry and special services for youth and senior residents. Current New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell, who was a community activist and the association’s president post-Katrina, lobbied for the redevelopment of the area and helped bring about the rebuilding of the Wilson School, as well as the birth of the beautiful Rosa Keller Library and Community Center — mainstays of the neighborhood today.
Napoleon Avenue and South Broad Street are Broadmoor’s main thoroughfares, featuring the library and community center, retail, shopping, and dining options. Residents enjoy taking a stroll along the Fine Arts & Wellness Trail on Napoleon Avenue and the view of stately homes.
