Upcoming Event: Words and Music Festival
The Words and Music Festival is coming to New Orleans from December 6th to 10th this year. It’s the place for established and new authors to share their work. The Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society, Inc. is sponsoring the event this year.
The festival is a unique choice and helped every fall in New Orleans. It gives writers the opportunity to showcase their work in a city that has been responsible for inspiring some of the greats, such as:
- Ernest Hemingway
- Tennessee Williams
- William Faulkner
- O. Henry
- John Kennedy Toole
- And More!
Many well-known bestselling authors have attended the festival in recent years, along with established publishing companies, literary agents and other writing professionals. About 75 to 100 authors, editors, publishers, scholars and performing artists will be on hand.

The schedule of events provides a number of great choices for aspiring writers including:
- Inspiring Young Writers, Creating Dedicated Readers for the Future – Wednesday, December 6th at 10:30am, venue TBA
- Welcome to Words & Music: New Orleans, Mon Amour – Thursday, December 7th at 8am at the East Mezzanine of the Hotel Monteleone
- A Louisiana Literary Hero – Thursday, December 7th at 9am in the Queen Anne Ballroom
- Literature & Lunch – Thursday, December 7th at 11:45am in the Bonnet Carre Room
- Publishing: Putting Your Passion into Print – Friday, December 8th at 11:45am in the Queen Anne Ballroom
- The Aesthetics of Literature – Friday, December 8th at 6pm in the Queen Anne Ballroom
- Workshop: Historical Fiction – Saturday, December 9th at 8:15am in the Queen Anne Ballroom

Pricing for the Event

Since there are numerous events as a part of the Words & Music Festival in New Orleans, the pricing schedule can be a bit hard to understand. Here’s a glance at what you can expect.
Writers Tuition Package – $375 per person
Includes:
- Aesthetics of Literature and Master Class Sessions
- Poetry Sessions
- Advice Sessions
- Agent & Editor critiques
- One-on-One Consultations
- Writers Alliance Meeting
- And Much More!
The Discussion Only Pass – $150 per person
Great for readers and writers looking to be a part of the discussions. It includes all discussions except the workshops and those with food and wine.
Single Day Pass – $150 per person
Includes all of the events of the day, such as Literature & Lunch and evening food and wine events. It doesn’t include any limited registration workshops or critiques, however.
Literature & Lunch Package – $200 per person
Includes all four Literature & Lunch sessions during the event.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Words & Music event and will be the best yet. Most of the events will be held at the Hotel Monteleone.
