Upcoming Event: Oktoberfest
Held for three weekends in October, the Oktoberfest event is back and better than ever. It’s sponsored by Deutsches Haus of New Orleans and will include plenty of great music, German-food, culture and fun. Of course, there will be all kinds of good beer, too.
What to Expect

The largest variety of German beers and German food will be a huge part of the event. In addition, German “oom pah pah” brass bands will play plenty of great folk dancing music. The Chicken Dance will happen at least once, probably more and there will be plenty of waltzes and polkas, too.
On Saturday, October 21st, you can enjoy the Dachshund Dash. This event will feature 60 to 75 wiener dogs in a race to see who’s the fastest.
The Food
Plenty of authentic German food will be offered including:
- Krautwickel
- Sauerkraut
- Bratwurst
- Giant Bavarian pretzels
- Sauerbraten
- Kasseler Rippchen
- Kartoffelbrie
- And More!
If you love sausages, pickled cabbage, creamed potatoes, braised roast beef and large pretzels, you’ll enjoy the food on hand for this event. In addition, there will be special dinners including pork loin, meatloaf, German cheeses and more. Desserts and Bavarian Nuts will also be available.
The Drinks
While German beer will certainly take center stage with more than 20 options, there will be plenty more to drink, as well. Plenty of German wines will be on hand, along with many types of liquor including a large variety of schnapps. More than 9 different wines are expected to be available with over 20 different schnapps, as well.
