Upcoming Event: Greek Fest
Greek Fest is coming and it will be a fun weekend for all to enjoy. Held from May 25th to 27th this year, Greek Fest will be found at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. It’s a Memorial Day Weekend tradition and a great event for families to enjoy together.
Event Background

This year marks the 45th year for the Greek Fest and it will also help to celebrate the 300th birthday of New Orleans. There will be several special events for the Tricentennial at the Greek Fest this year.
What to Expect
Greek Fest includes plenty of great Greek food, traditional music, entertainment and so much more. The food will include dishes, such as spanakopita, dolma, gyro sandwiches and so much more. Plenty of beverages will be on hand including wine, as well.
Traditional Greek music will be a part of the festivities with plenty of unique sounds. Hellenic dancers will also take the stage with colorful costumes representing their home country of Greece.
Along with music and dancers, the entertainment will include plenty of kids’ activities. Canoe rentals will be available on Bayou St. John and a drawing will be a part of the fun with the grand prize winner getting a trip to Greece. In addition, there will be plenty of handcrafted souvenirs and festival posters on sale. The T-shirt pavilion will be back with all the best festival t-shirts, as well.
The Athenian Playground will be open for children to enjoy. Greek Fest will also include the Mount Olympus Climbing Wall and the Hercules Hammer. Children can enjoy plenty of inflatables, along with kid’s crafts and face paintings, as well. Cooking demonstrations will also be held for adults to enjoy.
Of course, there will be Greek Fest races with awards and cash prizes on Friday evening. There will be a 1 mile race and a 5K race in the evening.
Sunday is Toga Sunday and anybody wearing a toga gets in free. There will also be a Best Toga contest and plenty of prizes to enjoy.
The Cathedral

Known as the first and oldest Greek Orthodox cathedral in the United States, this cathedral dates back to 1866. You can tour the beautiful building and enjoy the Byzantine-style dome, stained glass windows and Frescoes. It’s a very appealing cathedral and known for its’ beauty.
Event Details
Greek Fest will be held from 5pm to 11pm on Friday, 11am to 11pm on Saturday and from 11am to 9pm on Sunday. Entrance is $8 and children under 12 years of age get in free. You can get an early bird admission price on the Greek Fest website for $7 if you order your tickets in advance.
The event will be held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, which is found adjacent to Bayou St. John on Robert E. Lee Boulevard. Free parking with shuttle service will be found at the JFK school site. The entrance for the free parking is found on Wisner Avenue.
