Our Favorite Holiday Staycation Ideas for 2020

With a lot of us staying close to home this holiday season, we thought a collection of recommended December to-do’s would be right on point. New Orleans is magical year-round, and even more so during the holidays. So treat yourself and your family to something fun, and check out some of our favorites below.

1. Drive through Celebration in the Oaks

2. Take the night off at a boutique hotel

You don’t have to leave town to get away from it all. We love the vibe of the secluded, intimate Hotel Provincial, in the residential section of the French Quarter.

3. Get café au lait & beignets

You don’t need an excuse for coffee and beignets, but the requisite powdered sugar may be as close as you get to snow this year.

4. See more holiday lights

Drive or take the streetcar down St. Charles Avenue, and check out decked-out mansions covered in festive lights. We’re fans of this one at the corner of St. Charles Avenue and Cadiz Street. And don’t miss a walk through the lobby of the Roosevelt Hotel.

5. Shop local

The shops on Magazine Street offer every kind of holiday gift you could ever want to give. And most have online shopping with curbside pickup.

6. Check out Supernova on Lafitte Greenway

Check out the awesome new lights exhibit and outdoor experience on the Lafitte Greenway in partnership with Luna Fete.

7. Make festive cocktails at home with El Guapo Bitters

While we New Orleanians generally love a good cold front, we’re pretty lucky to enjoy 70-degree weather in December. So grab a blanket, pick up some of your favorite poboys, and treat yourself to a beautiful view of Lake Ponchartrain.
