Doing Our Part in Honor of Earth Day 2021

by Julie Koppman

Rêve Realtors is proud to do our part in honor of Earth Day 2021. On Saturday, April 24th, we’ll be volunteering at City Park, alongside our friends at Imoto, to help clean up Couturie Forest. The 60-acre Couturie Forest is a nature-lover’s haven filled with native trees, scenic waterways, and fascinating wildlife — all in the heart of New Orleans.

Volunteering at City Park

For more than 150 years, City Park has been a natural sanctuary for New Orleanians – a place to escape city life without ever leaving home. It’s one of the largest urban parks in the U.S., and volunteers are essential to its day-to-day operation. Whether you volunteer as an individual or as part of a group, it’s one of the most valuable contributions you can make, as you help to build a better, stronger park for all to enjoy. See all of City Park’s volunteering opportunities here.

Supporting Restore the Mississippi River Delta

As part of our continuing commitment to the environment, we’re also supporting Restore the Mississippi River Delta as it rebuilds coastal Louisiana’s nationally-significant landscape to protect people, wildlife and jobs. A unified coalition of conservation, policy and science experts from the Environmental Defense Fund, National Audubon Society, the National Wildlife Federation, Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, and Pontchartrain Conservancy, this hard-working non-profit is helping protect America’s wetlands for the future. Learn more, donate, and get involved.

Coastal Marsh Grass Planting – Ongoing

Nonprofit Common Ground Relief is focused on restoring and preserving Louisiana’s disappearing coastal wetlands. Help plant marsh grasses in Southeast Louisiana with the Louisiana Dept. of Agriculture & Forestry. Each Tuesday (weather-dependent), the organization plants 1,500 – 2,500 plugs of grass in locations vulnerable to erosion and land loss.

Nursery Upkeep – Ongoing

Nonprofit Common Ground Relief also cares for the thousands of native trees in their Lower Ninth Ward nursery. Trees and grasses are used for wetlands restoration projects and urban stormwater retention efforts. Tasks include watering, weeding, constructing ponds/beds, and re-potting plants.

The Green Project Volunteer Orientation – Ongoing

The Green Project works to divert usable materials from landfills and cultivate a respect for their value. Every year, the Green Project prevents 40,000 gallons of paint from being dumped down the drain, reclaims 2 million pounds of materials for reuse, and educates over 700 local students and residents. Attend a volunteer orientation session at The Green Project, get acquainted with their environmental mission, tour the warehouse and facility, and more!
