When you look at how New Orleans compared to cities, such as New York, San Francisco and Philadelphia, it comes out as one of the least expensive. NeighborhoodX released a study they did comparing the prices of many cities across the country. . This is what they found.

Manhattan came out as the most expensive, while New Orleans was the least expensive. They looked at other cities, such as Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Austin and San Francisco, as well. Out of all of these major cities in the United States, the most affordable by price per square foot was New Orleans. The range starts very low, but goes high enough to attract those looking for a more luxurious property.

New Orleans came in with an average price per square foot of $259, while the range was from $37 to $999 per square foot. Philadelphia had an average of $301 per square foot, while Los Angeles was at $417 and San Francisco was $1,185. Manhattan was the most expensive at $1,428 per square foot. Austin and Boston were also found in the middle at $345 and $751 per square foot respectively.

Both San Francisco and New York City came our as some of the most expensive on the list and only compared to the absolute most expensive properties found in the Central Business District and French Quarter of New Orleans. Overall, New Orleans isn’t nearly as expensive as most of the other major cities found across the United States. It’s a very affordable city with some very affordable neighborhoods.

Of course, those looking for more expensive properties in New Orleans can certainly find them. The city is home to some very expensive neighborhoods, but there are also some very affordable areas for those with a smaller house hunting budget.
