#1. You’re Close To Everything–You’ve Just Got to Cross the River

Algiers Point is so named for being in the area of Algiers on a point in the Mississippi River that is directly across from the French Quarter, Downtown, the Warehouse District and Marigny/Bywater.

It’s connected to these famous places by a ferry line that crosses the Mississippi several times a day. So you can live in a beautiful part of New Orleans with a magnificent view of the skyline, and access to all the amenities of historic New Orleans, but still have a small-town feel.

#2. Get Ready For a Walkable City

Algiers Point, New Orleans is lovely, and it’s small. (But its tiny size is one of its main selling points.) With the Mississippi River on its north and west, the east side is bounded by Pacific Avenue, and the south by Opelousas Avenue.

Altogether, Algiers Point isn’t made up of more than about fifty blocks, and everything is within walking distance. It has had to fight for its existence–including almost being wiped out by Hurricane Katrina–but the old library just needed some structural renovations and proudly reopened, as good as new.

Real estate in Algiers Point is remarkable for being able to avoid much of the gentrification that has hit other places (you’ve seen it when trying to buy a house in New Orleans). In one of the oldest neighborhoods, you can find homes ranging from the low $200,000s to more than a million.
