New Health Care Facility Set to Break Ground

by Clint LaCour

A $21 million healthcare facility will soon be a part of New Orleans. This new facility has been a joint effort from Hope Enterprise Corporation and Home Credit Union. It will be located to the north of Claiborne and Elysian Field Avenue and will help by providing primary care and prevention services to those still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

The facility will cover 64,000 square feet and will allow for CrescentCare to expand the services they offer and access to those services. CrescentCare offers many low or no cost services to the community.

Construction on this new healthcare facility in New Orleans is expected to begin by the end of the summer. It will take about 12 months for the building to be completed.

The new facility will be a consolidation of four currently leased facilities. All four will be set and added into the campus, which will create and preserve about 450 total jobs.

The CEO of CrescentCare, Noel Twilbeck hopes the facility will help to put a dent in the need for quality care in the area. Twilbeck says this new facility will triple the capacity and will allow for better and more services without any sacrifice to quality.

CrescentCare is one of the main sources of care for the LGBTQ community, along with those living with AIDS and HIV. The new facility will help to deliver care to these groups, along with providing the ability to support a larger population of patients in New Orleans.

The funding came from a loan of $10 million from Primary Care Development Corporation, including Reinvestment Fund and Low Income Investment Fund at participating lenders.

Other funding will come from the New Markets Tax Credits. A total of $21 million was disbursed with JPMorgan Chase, Hope Enterprise and PCDC all investing in the project.

Some of the services CrescentCare will provide include:

  •          Housing assistance
  •          Counseling
  •          A commercial pharmacy program
  •          Financial coaching
  •          Food pantry
  •          Peer support
  •          Legal services
  •          Prevention and testing programs
  •          And More!

With the new facility, CrescentCare will be able to provide more patients care they need to survive and thrive in New Orleans.
