Lakeview: Family-Friendly with a Suburban Feel

The Lakeview neighborhood is named for its close proximity to Lake Ponchartrain, and while it’s inside Orleans parish, it offers more of a suburban feel and a relaxed lifestyle. Roughly bounded by Robert E. Lee Boulevard, Orleans Avenue, Florida Boulevard, and Pontchartrain Boulevard, the area can also include the Navarre, West End, Lakewood, and Lakefront neighborhoods. Accessible to downtown but feeling worlds away, Lakeview is a great choice for families, and you’ll find everything from ranch homes and Craftsman-style bungalows to grand, two-story new construction.
A mostly residential area, Lakeview benefits from being close to the lakefront’s marinas, yacht clubs, family-style seafood restaurants, and a walking path that runs along the shoreline. Harrison Avenue, a popular thoroughfare in the middle of Lakeview offers boutiques, coffee shops, grocery stores, ice cream shops, and more eateries. And on the eastern edge of Lakeview is City Park, a 1300-acre outdoor oasis that’s one of the oldest urban parks in the United States. Featuring beautiful live oaks and a plethora of family-friendly activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You’ll find the Botanical Garden, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the Carousel Gardens amusement park, a dog park, a tennis center, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the brand new Children’s Museum, City Putt, Café de Monde, biking, jogging, and walking paths, soccer fields, playgrounds, and many lush open green spaces.
