How Do You Know If You’ll Love Your New Neighborhood?

by Clint LaCour

When you move to a new neighborhood in New Orleans, you may not be sure if you’ll love it or just tolerate it. Everybody is different and wants something different from a neighborhood.

The good news, New Orleans offers a wide variety of very unique neighborhoods. Below you will find some of the things you can consider to ensure you will love your new neighborhoods.

What’s Close By?

Do you love going out to dinner? Are you a self-proclaimed foodie? If so, you may want to live in a neighborhood, such as the Central Business District or the French Quarter. Being close to awesome restaurants will certainly go a long way for you to love your new neighborhood.

This can be applied to anything. If you love to shop, find a neighborhood near great shopping. If you prefer to be outside playing in the sun, find a neighborhood near a great park or natural attraction.

Do You Love the Nightlife?

If you love going out at night and you don’t mind a lively place, living near the best bars and restaurants may be for you. However, if you’re not the type to go out much and you don’t want to live in a noisier neighborhood, avoid the downtown areas of New Orleans.

Maybe you have younger children and a quiet neighborhood is the right choice for you. If this is the case, you may want to choose a neighborhood such as City Park or Bayou St. John.

Do You Want To Be Near Friends or Family?

If you have friends or family members living in New Orleans and you want to love your neighborhood, maybe living near them will do the trick. Those home buyers looking to spend a large amount of time with relatives or friends should consider this factor when choosing a New Orleans neighborhood.

Along with asking these questions before you choose a neighborhood, you should do your research. Everybody has different needs. Maybe you’re single and love to go out. Your needs will certainly be different than a home buyer seeking the top school district or family-friendly attractions.

Take the time to research the area and make sure the things you enjoy will be easily accessible. Location is everything in real estate, but the right location for one home buyer  may not be the same right location for another.
