Top Spots in New Orleans for Oysters

. Have them on a sandwich or right out of the half shell, either way, you’ll enjoy the unique way local restaurants go about preparing incredible oyster dishes. Here’s a look at some of the top spots in New Orleans for oysters.

Cafe Giovanni

For great fried oysters you cannot skip Cafe Giovanni. This spot offers some great food and the Oysters Giovanni are actually award-winning. They are lightly fried and come with five sauces drizzled on the plate. It gives the dish a look of stained-glass. Not only does it look great, but it also tastes great.

Arnaud’s

If you prefer your oysters Bienville style, you want to head to Arnaud’s. It’s a great spot for plump gulf oysters with diced shrimp, parsley, Romano cheese, breadcrumbs and mushrooms to top them. This is one of the best spots in the French Quarter and shouldn’t be ignored.

Acme Oyster House

At the Acme Oyster House, the way to get your oysters is either as an Oyster shooter or an Oyster Bloody Mary. It’s the most famous and the oldest of the oyster bars in the city, not to mention one of the busiest. The Bloody Mary is topped with raw oysters or you can choose an oyster shooter with chilled vodka, a raw oyster and a dab of cocktail sauce.

Antoine’s

Antoine’s is the right place to go for Oysters Rockefeller in New Orleans. It was created in 1899 and has been around for a very long time. The recipe hasn’t changed and it’s something you certainly want to try at some point in your life.

Drago’s

Drago’s serves oysters charbroiled to offer a buttery, smoky flavor with garlic butter, cheeses, herbs and a great sauce. If you want to try something a bit unique, yet very delicious, this is the place to go.

The Blind Pelican

Maybe you want cheap oysters that taste great. If so, the 4pm to 8pm happy hour at The Blind Pelican is the place for you. Get raw oysters for a quarter and enjoy as many as you want. All you have to do is get a beverage with every dozen and you’ll get this amazing deal!

Seaworthy

Another great spot for oysters, Seaworthy offers sustainably harvested oysters you can enjoy. They have plenty of unique choices on the menu to try.

Pascal’s Manale

The best oysters on the menu at Pascal’s Manale are the raw oysters. They are very fresh, very plump and some of the best in New Orleans. This staple is known by locals and visitors as the place to go. You may even catch Uptown T in action as the master shucker.

Red Fish Grill

A great spot in the French Quarter for an Oyster Po-boy, Red Fish Grill offers plenty of options on the menu. You can enjoy the oyster po-boy, however, and have the dish that won the Best Seafood Po-Boy from the Oak Street Po-Boy Festival four years in a row.

Carrollton Market

When you head to the Carrollton Market, you may not be thinking about oysters. However, Oysters Goodenough is found here and offers flash-fried oysters with creamed leeks, Benton’s bacon and sauce béarnaise. It’s certainly worth trying.
