Supporting The Next Generation of Skilled Leaders at unCommon Construction

Rêve agents like Erin Hardy are enthusiastic volunteers in the community, and we’re dedicated to supporting their life-changing efforts. Erin serves as chair of the Board of Directors of unCommon Construction (uCC), a groundbreaking non-profit that hires and gives school credit, wages, and equity scholarships to local high schoolers as they learn the trades of building houses.
Empowering Its Apprentices
Acting in a contractor role, uCC empowers apprentices by teaching them construction skills and giving them the opportunity to network with executives like construction company owners, real estate agents, lawyers, lenders, and bankers. As proof of the success of this program, many apprentices go on to successful trade careers and college studies like architecture. Erin notes that one successful graduate of the program went on to become an electrician, was able to buy his first home by age 20, and now happily serves on the board of uCC alongside her.

A Gateway to a Successful Life
“Practicing a trade can be a gateway to a successful life, and uCC’s mission is to get that message out and show apprentices how it’s done,” says Erin. “The apprentices work every Saturday on the job site, and one afternoon a week, they meet and learn from executives in different industries. It’s hard work, but it’s a great way for them to get their feet wet.”
A Non-Profit That’s On the Move
Historically focused on the St. Roch neighborhood, uCC is now branching out to other areas, undergoing a capital campaign, and will soon purchase space for their new headquarters. And they’re thrilled to have financial backing from many in the construction and real estate industries.
On GiveNOLA day, we donated to uCC to support the next generation of skilled leaders! Won’t you join us? Learn more about uCC and donate.
