Rêve Agent Rayna Bishop Talks About Furnished Luxury Rentals

by Julie Koppman

When Rayna Bishop was a new agent, a television show’s travel coordinator called looking for high-end rentals for film production professionals. The agent Rayna assisted at the time was busy and asked her to handle it. And that was the beginning of a successful business niche that continues to grow to this day. Says Rayna, “You do a good job for a film production company, their travel coordinator takes note, and they keep calling you back.”

When the Film Business Took Off, A Few Savvy Clients Saw the Potential

Rayna explains that from the beginning, she’s had a few savvy clients who’ve created a business out of furnished luxury rentals marketed to the film industry. These clients realized that when film production took off in Louisiana, there weren’t a lot of options available. Notes Rayna, “Occasionally, you could talk a family into giving up their home for several months, and they’d go to a second home in Mississippi. But in those situations, actors and actresses were staying in homes that felt very lived in by other people – with photos of grandma on the wall. My clients realized that something was missing in the city.”

How the Luxury Rental Business Has Grown

Now, with clients specializing in properties that are used solely as high-end furnished rentals, her business has grown, and she has clients with multiple properties in rotation. In fact, Rayna and a new client are making a game plan for his next furnished rental-only purchase, strategizing about which price points are needed in the city, the sizes of homes that are in demand, and the neighborhoods that are most preferred.

During the pandemic, when film production shut down, Rayna and her clients had to pivot; their renters included traveling nurses, doctors who were new to the city and unsure where to buy, and those who were renovating their own homes and needed to move out. Now that film production is back in full swing, those renters have returned.

A Solid Business Model Going Forward

While film production may have been the reason Rayna’s clients initially got into the luxury rental business, the business model remains solid, as many others seek out these types of properties as well.
